At the bottom of lengthy Park Street, and right by Bristol Cathedral and College Green, the hotel is also close to lively Harbourside and the Floating Harbour. You couldn't ask for a more central or convenient location. Temple Meads station is also only a 15-minute walk away. Bristol Aquarium, We The Curious interactive science museum (great for children) and At-Bristol, recalling the city's history, are all worth a visit.
By car: around 1 hour 30 minutes from Exeter, 3 hours from London and 4 hours from York.
By train: trains run to Bristol Temple Meads from Exeter St Davids (1 hour), London Paddington (1 hour 40 minutes) and York (3 hours 50 minutes). The hotel is a 15-minute taxi-ride from the station. Book trains to Bristol Temple Meads.
The Grade II-listed façade with its bay windows sets the tone for what is said to be the oldest hotel in Bristol; inside chandeliers hang in the marble-floored lobby. The mix of the traditional and the corporate can jar on occasion, but this is a big hotel aiming for the business and leisure market.
It's a big hotel but that doesn't mean the service suffers; there was always someone on hand to direct me around the (sometimes confusing) public areas. The 24-hour gym has weights and cardiovascular machines; another bonus is that there is a car park.
