The hotel sits on a cliff above Mawgan Porth, a sandy beach with crashing waves, rockpools and caves. It's a quieter alternative to nearby Newquay but still has a lifeguard and surf school. Once you step inside, the sea views make up for the hotel's uninspiring exterior. Rather than completely overhaul the building the owners have embraced its history with cheerful, retro-inspired scandi décor. Local crafts and art feature heavily and are on sale in the shop.
There's plenty to keep children busy, even on a rainy day, with an indoor soft play area, craft room and three pools (one indoor). If you'd rather escape the children for a while there's a second restaurant off-limits to under 5s and the option of a spa treatment.
