OVERVIEW
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Just opposite the sea, Drakes is in a convenient position to experience the beach, buzzing pier and extensive nightlife, as well as walking distance to the plethora of great eateries, bars and eclectic shops. There's history such as walking tours and attractive buildings like the iconic Royal Pavilion, created as a seaside pleasure palace for King George IV. Brighton has a huge array of independent art galleries, with work ranging from accessible to expensive.
By car: over 2 hours from London and Oxford, and 3 hours from Bristol. Parking costs £15 per day.
By train: London Victoria and London Bridge to Brighton takes around 1 hour. It's a 10-minute drive (or 20-minute walk) from the station. Book trains to Brighton.

THE LOOK AND FEEL
There are attractive Art Deco touches throughout and spaces are flooded with natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows which also frame seaside views. Curved walls and warmth from red hues in decorative fabrics make the hotel feel homely. The restaurant feels modern in terms of furniture, yet the ambience is still that of a Georgian mansion.

THE FACILITIES
Even though there isn't the option of lunch or dinner at the hotel itself, the receptionist clearly had their finger on the pulse in terms of the best local restaurants, suggesting the top vegetarian and vegan ones in town. As we were going to be joined by our vegetarian friend, we were very grateful.
