OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

A little off the beaten path, St George's Terrace is a quiet side street in Kemptown. It's moments from some great local pubs, shops and cafes, while the seafront is a five-minute stroll. The Royal Pavilion and the Lanes are a leisurely 15-minute walk or a short bus ride away. The nearby Egg & Spoon cafe is great for coffee or lunch, while the Ginger Dog is a cracking gastropub.

By car: Brighton is around 2 hours' drive from London. Visitor parking permits can be bought from the hotel, lasting for 24 hours and allowing you to park in front of the hotel or in any of the surrounding streets.

By train: There are regular connections from London Victoria and London Bridge to Brighton, taking around one hour. The hotel is a 10-minute taxi ride or 20-minute walk from Brighton station. Book trains to Brighton.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

From the outside, the double-fronted Victorian villa is a pillar of respectability, but step inside and guests are greeted with a riot of colourful retro fun. Find reclaimed fairground signage, vast street art murals and funky vintage finds, like the rusty Wrigley's Gum machine and a trio of flying ducks.

THE FACILITIES

Run by two friends, Paul and Tony, who transformed an old-fashioned B&B into this retro haven back in 2006. The team on-site is friendly and helpful, and happy to offer recommendations on favourite shops, bars and clubs. While there's no garden, a small balcony on the first floor appeases smokers.
