The Tudor Farmhouse is easily found on Clearwell's quiet high street. A stroll around the village takes you past an old well and pretty cottages. The inn itself is spread over several buildings, has pretty gardens and a big car park, and is surrounded by meadows full of rare plants.

By car: under an hour from Bristol, 1 hour 30 minutes from Birmingham and 3 hours from London. Free parking on-site.

By train: London to Chepstow takes 2 hours 30 minutes. It's a 20-minute taxi to the hotel. Book trains to Chepstow.

Luxurious but laid-back, Tudor Farmhouse has been converted from former farm buildings and a smaller B&B into a classy, cosy bolthole with fresh and modern décor and amenities yet traditional country character thanks to wood beams, low ceilings, subtle Farrow & Ball colours and delightfully quirky paintings and artefacts.

Welcoming staff offer thoughtful extras such as maps, wellies, brollies and even reading glasses. As well as themed breaks, they can arrange in-room massages, bike hire and guides, too.
