THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Glewstone Court is found in splendid isolation in the little village of Glewstone, a mile or so off the A40 and a five-minute drive from picturesque Ross-on-Wye. The impressive, historic property has two acres of grounds and is surrounded by apple trees and unspoilt countryside. The Forest of Dean and its wide range of outdoor activities including hiking, canoeing and cycling is on the doorstep.
By car: around 1 hour from Cardiff, 1 hour 30 minutes from Birmingham and 3 hours from London. There is free parking on site.
By train: trains run to Abergavenny from Cardiff (40 minutes) and Manchester Picadilly (2 hours 15 minutes). The hotel is a 30-minute taxi ride from Abergavenny. Book trains to Abergavenny.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
This stylish, modern country house has warm wood floors throughout, tasteful Farrow & Ball walls, Chesterfields and other comfortable furniture, crystal chandeliers, deer-themed knick-knacks, local artwork, fresh flowers and real fires in winter. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and accommodating, making it a perfect bolthole for recharging the batteries.
THE FACILITIES
Gary and Karen Homewood took over Glewstone Court in 2014, and
have quickly established a strong local clientele. The owners and
their team now offer welcoming yet unobtrusive service. Glewstone
Court is licensed for both weddings and civil ceremonies and can
be
booked for exclusive use. Room service and laundry service are
available, and there's plenty of parking.

BED AND BATH
The hotel has nine bedrooms, reached by a wooden staircase, including two spacious suite/superior rooms, all fresh and modern, with a big bed, quality linens, bathrobes and armchairs; top rooms have a mini bar, too. Some bathrooms have a walk-in shower or rolltop bath and underfloor heating.

FOOD AND DRINK
The hotel serves lunch and dinner, à la carte and a six-course taster menu, in the Cedar Tree restaurant and in the Courtyard in summer. Afternoon Tea can be enjoyed in the bar and courtyard. Chef Richard Kaye's food features excellent local produce, such as Pant-ys-Gawn goats' cheese, local meat and game and fresh vegetables.
The Cedar Tree: two AA Rostettes. Formal fine dining, modern British cuisine. Open Wednesday-Saturday 12.30-2.30pm and 5-8pm and Sunday lunch 12-2pm. Dinner mains from £16.
