OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Just a short walk from Harrods and Harvey Nichols and the designer shops of Knightsbridge, the hotel is on tree-lined Beaufort Gardens - a quiet haven from the nearby hubbub. Look out for supercars on the surrounding streets. South Kensington and Knightsbridge Tube stations are within strolling distance. If you love art, the V&A is nearby, so you are guaranteed some must-see exhibitions; take a wander to Kensington Gardens.

By car: the hotel is 4 hours from Manchester, 2 hours 30 mins from Birmingham and 7 hours from Glasgow. Nearby public parking at NCP Cadogan Place costs £55 per day.

By train: Knightsbridge tube station is right by the hotel and London Victoria is a 5-minute taxi away. London Paddington is 15 mins from the hotel, Kings Cross and Euston stations are 20 mins away in a taxi. Book trains to London.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The eye for detail is one of many attractive features of the Knightsbridge Hotel, with its classic Victorian look enhanced by a bold witty mix of colours and fabrics in the Library and Drawing Room. It reflects a modern English style, but look out for Provençal designs and an abundance of modern art.

THE FACILITIES

The personable and attentive staff deal with any request without fuss. There's no spa, but Soholistic offers a range of in-room massages and treatments; there's also no gym, but guests can pay to work out and use the facilities at Aquila Health & Fitness in Thurloe Place.

Room types: Single Rooms, Double Rooms, Superior Rooms, Luxury Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites, Knightsbridge Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with Kemp's RikRak toiletries, writing desk, TV, mini bar, safe, iPod docking station, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

As mentioned, there is no formal restaurant at the Knightsbridge, but the room service menu can also be served in the Library or Drawing Room. This includes homely dishes such as cottage pie and steak, or try the superfood salad. The afternoon teas with sandwiches and cakes shouldn't be missed. There's an honesty bar in the library.

The Drawing Room: afternoon tea, room service menu of light bites and mains available.

The Library: honesty bar.
