OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The K West is set back from the sprawl and well-placed for the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire and the Westfield shopping centre. For further retail opportunities it's a mere 20-minute tube ride to Oxford Circus, or a ten-minute hop to Notting Hill. Family-run French brasserie Le Petit Citron is a five-minute walk away, while its 15 minutes to fun bar-restaurant The Hawk's Nest.

By car: under 4 hours from Manchester and 2 hours from Bristol. On-site parking costs £29 per day.

By train: Shepherd's Bush station is a 5-minute walk and Kensington (Olympia) is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Book trains to London.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Once a BBC building, the exterior looks enticing at night, all lit-up with neon. Inside, rock and roll artworks pay tributes to this hotel's musical heritage - however, the once cutting-edge décor is starting to look a little dated. In the Studio Bar, chainmail curtains separate clusters of velvet cocktail chairs.

THE FACILITIES

As well as the spacious spa there's a well-equipped gym on site, plus a small restaurant and bar and a stylish chill-out space equipped with a TV and books. Cheerful staff really elevate the guest experience here - we loved the off-menu suggestions from the server in the cocktail bar.

BED AND BATH

At well over 200sq ft, even the smallest of the 219 guest rooms are spacious. Their look is conspicuously funky, with bold wall art featuring beaming faces, plus brightly-coloured throw cushions. Bathrooms are by comparison rather staid, and getting the shower or bath to run is trickier than it should be.

Room types: Junior, Superior, Deluxe, Executive, Studio, K Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee-making facilities, TV, in-room tablet, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

Open all day, Studio Kitchen serves buffet and à la carte breakfast options, and has a crowd-pleasing choice of bistro-style dishes at lunch and dinner. Though the space is rather over-lit, dishes like salad Niçoise or a Korean chicken burger are prepared with care.

Studio Kitchen: stylish restaurant, small plates, sharing platters and classic mains. All-day dining, open daily.

Studio Bar: cosy lounge, extensive cocktail menu. Open daily from 4pm.
