OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

INNSiDE Manchester is in the First Street area of the city centre, next to the HOME arts centre and over the road from the former Hacienda building (now flats). Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink station and Deansgate railway station are less than a five-minute walk away, while Oxford Road railway station is less than ten minutes away. HOME, with a cinema, changing art exhibitions and theatre, is next door, while the nearby Briton's Protection is one of Manchester's oldest pubs.

By car: the hotel is 2 hours from Birmingham, 2 hours 15 mins from Nottingham and 4 hours 15 mins from London. There is a 25% discount for hotel guests at the nearby Q-Park First Street car park.

By train: London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly takes just over 2 hours. The hotel is a 5-minute taxi ride or 15-minute walk from the station. Book trains to Manchester.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

It's all about clean lines in this modern hotel, from its eye-catching red building to open-plan bedrooms without a scatter cushion in sight. The lobby is the place to pose, whether pointing out a local attraction on the "doodle pillar" by illustrator Dave Draws or in front of one of its regular displays.

THE FACILITIES

Friendly and helpful receptionists are dressed in smart-casual clothes and offer a warm welcome. Staff in the restaurant are enthusiastic about explaining its slightly confusing concept. There's a small gym in the hotel as well as a sauna and steam room. Treatments can be arranged through an independent company too.

Spacious rooms and suites have simple black, grey and white décor, with pale grey furniture and a purple statement wall behind bed headboards. Bathrooms are integrated into the open-plan rooms with rain showers behind frosted glass cubicles - but they do have a door to the toilet.

Room types: Innside Room (standard, twin or city view), The Studio, The Townhouse

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom, free toiletries, TV, tea and coffee facilities, minibar, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

Described as "Food for a Social Mood", there's a huge range of food types to choose between, from sandwiches and burgers to tandoori chicken - but, if you have time, there are better places to eat nearby. There's also a lunchtime buffet. The outdoor terrace is a pleasant place to have a pre- or post-dinner drink if the weather is behaving.

Hideout Lounge & Grill: relaxed all-day dining, modern British dishes, global influences, seasonal menus, cocktails. Open every day 6.30am-11pm (7am at weekends).
