Just around the corner from Piccadilly station, this stylish aparthotel is in a huge former cotton warehouse. OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Just a two-minute walk from Piccadilly railway station, and a five-minute walk to Piccadilly Gardens' bus and tram network, Native Manchester is extremely central. The aparthotel is on the edge of the trendy Northern Quarter and around a ten-minute walk to Ancoats with its hip bars and restaurants. Mana in Ancoats was recently awarded the city's first Michelin star for more than 40 years, while there's interesting street art in the Northern Quarter.

By car: the hotel is 1 hour 45 mins from Birmingham, 2 hours 40 mins from Newcastle and 4 hours 15 mins from London. There is parking on-site costing £15 per day.

By train: London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly takes just over 2 hours. The hotel is a few minutes' walk from the station. Book trains to Manchester.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Steel columns and lashings of exposed brick from the former warehouse are striking, and period colours have been used in public areas to complement the building's age. The open-plan Cultureplex space has a variety of seating options, from tan leather sofas to the tucked-away booths in Bistrotheque.

THE FACILITIES

Staff are enthusiastic and full of recommendations on what to do nearby - I received suggestions on everything from axe throwing to a trip to a small lesser-known museum. Classes in the boutique gym, Blok, are £15 each with some intriguing options, such as animal movement, while the small cinema has daily showings.

FOOD AND DRINK

Kitchenettes in rooms allow guests to self-cater, but there are also three dining options in Cultureplex. Bistrotheque is the sister of a popular East London restaurant; expect brunch and a menu of quirky bistro classics. There's also a more relaxed menu in the lounge and a coffee shop called Klatch.

The Lounge: all-day dining, relaxed, light lunches, sandwiches, modern British dishes, cocktails. Mains from £13.

The Restaurant: modern Brasserie. Open every day for lunch and dinner.
