On the exquisitely terraced Pulteney Street, No.15 is a short walk from the Robert Adam-designed Pulteney Bridge and the heart of the city. Peaceful Henrietta Park lies just behind the hotel, which in turn is a ten-minute stroll from Bath Spa station. By train: Bath Spa station is just 10 minutes away by foot, serviced by Great Western Railway with links to Gloucester (1 hour 20 minutes), Bristol Temple Meads (11 minutes) and London Paddington (1 hour 20 minutes). Book trains to Bath Spa.

The hotel may be housed in three Georgian townhouses, but inside you will find a sense of fun and amidst the original firings you will find idiosyncratic touches such as the lobby chandelier made out of earrings. The ambience, meanwhile, is relaxed and rather homely. The bedrooms too have bags of style.

A fluent, easy-going manner pervades the hotel, with the staff both friendly and experienced. This works right from the off at the front desk, through to the cocktail bar, the spa and the restaurant. Spa 15, set in a former coal cellar in the basement, is an uber-cool space.

The hotel offers individually-styled rooms and suites, five of which are in the Coach House just to the back of the hotel. Rooms are light and spacious and feature either distressed-style walls or subtle pastel shades, plus super comfy Hypnos beds.

The hotel's quirky Dispensary restaurant is now in the hands of new chef Matt Gillard, who specialises in "wild British food", so expect a lot of local and foraged dishes. The snazzy Bar 15/sitting room has cocktails listed in the form of a deck of cards.

The Restaurant: Updated classics, seasonal ingredients. Open for breakfast, Sunday lunch and dinner. Three courses at lunch for £24.50, dinner plates from £16.
