Contemporary design by Nicola Harding blends a mix of old and new: period chairs stylishly reupholstered, a tapestry from the original building, antiques, commissioned artwork and a retro jukebox in the intimate library. Hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper is exquisite. The vibe is relaxed and buzzy.
Impeccable, friendly, unpretentious and efficient; we appreciated the sommelier's recommendation to go with our roasted suckling pig. Waiters are dressed informally in jeans, aprons and shirts. The hotel will arrange boat trips, canoeing, paddle boarding and picnic hampers.

Each of the King Henry-sized rooms is different but adorned with heavily patterned wallpaper, painted wood panelling and elegant antique chairs. Some have a standalone bath and an open four-poster bed. King Henry-themed drawings, books and hanging door signs are fun and the bottle of Kings Ginger is a lovely touch.
