OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

It's difficult to believe that this hotel is only 10-15 minutes by car from Gatwick airport and fairly close to the busy A23, as you don't hear any noise from either. Set in three acres of gardens and grounds, it's a tranquil retreat disturbed only by the sound of quacking ducks. Take a trip to nearby Hever Castle - Anne Boleyn's childhood home - Wakehurst Place botanical gardens, Gatton Park or Box Hill and the Denbies estate, which offers winery tours.

By car: 1 hour 30 minutes from central London, 2 hours 30 minutes from Birmingham and 4 hours from Manchester. There is free parking on-site.

By train: there is a direct line from London Bridge to Horley Station and the journey takes 43 minutes. From the station, Langshott Manor is a 10-minute taxi ride or a half-hour walk. Book trains to Horley.

This cosy 22-bedroom four-red-star hotel exudes a sense of history without any of the stuffiness. Cosy lounges with log fires, beamed low ceilings, oak doors and comfy armchairs are perfect for relaxing, and a stylish makeover and modern wall art have brought the décor and bold furnishings bang on trend.

THE FACILITIES

Service is efficient and attentive. A few housekeeping issues are dealt with promptly and without fuss. Waiters are smartly attired in green ties, white shirts and smart waistcoat-style aprons. They talk animatedly about the dishes and respond quickly to requests. There's a croquet lawn and gardens to enjoy.
