OVERVIEW

This 1930s boutique hotel and Young's gastropub is a treasure trove; the retro memorabilia collection, attractive plant-filled terrariums and leaf-patterned Secret Garden wallpaper are a nod to the building's Victorian origins. The cosy bedrooms are individually styled and there's a buzzy vibe in the restaurant and bar.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Bespoke design complements a Victorian theme, from the montages of nature pictures in the bedrooms to the plant-filled terrariums and fascinating memorabilia in the bar - it's like staying in a country house. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed in the bar and restaurant - expect jeans and trainers rather than a shirt and tie.

THE FACILITIES

Relaxed, informal and efficient, particularly in the restaurant where service is swift. Waiters chat happily about the provenance of the food and homemade deserts. There are few facilities apart from a decked garden and bar serving craft ales and a deliciously refreshing Summer Solstice cucumber and mint spritz.
