OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

In the 3rd arrondissement at the junction of rue de Poitou and rue de Saintonge. The nearest Métro station is St-Sébastien-Frossart, a short walk to the east. There is one parking space close by at a charge and more available at sister property Pavillon de la Reine, a ten-minute walk south. This is a good area for first-time visitors with plenty of atmosphere, including at night. The Musée Picasso and Musée Carnavalet, devoted to the history of Paris, are just a stroll away.

By plane: Flights from London or Manchester to Paris Charles De Gaulle take 1 hour 15 minutes and the hotel is a 50-minute drive. Parking costs €10 per day. Book flights to Paris.

By train: Eurostar from London to Paris Gare du Nord takes 2 hours 20 minutes and the hotel is a 15-minute drive. Book trains to Paris.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Boutique hotels have moved on since fashion designer Christian Lacroix created this zany showpiece in 2005. While some will find it dated and tired in places, his zestfully jumbled designs have a joyous energy that makes this an intimate and interesting base in the heart of the Marais.

THE FACILITIES

Complimentary bikes are available. Massage and beauty treatments can be booked at the nearby Spa de la Reine by Codage, which is part of a larger sister hotel, Pavillon de la Reine in place des Vosges. It also has a jacuzzi, hammam and fitness centre.

BED AND BATH

The guest rooms and one suite are spread over four floors in two adjoining buildings. Most are small and come individually designed by Christian Lacroix in a colour-rich, theatrical style with wild wallpapers and sumptuous furnishings. Some rooms offer a bath.

Room types: Comfort, Superior, Deluxe, Junior Suite

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with Codage toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, hairdryer, coffee-making facilities, bottled water, air conditioning, TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

A generous buffet breakfast is served in the colourful Restaurant Chez Nenesse. It's small, so you may have to wait for a table or take it in the adjacent reception lounge, alternatively, you can order breakfast to your room. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby that you can walk to and the hotel staff will help make reservations.

Restaurant Chez Nenesse: cosy seating, intimate setting. Open daily for breakfast, 7-10:30am.
