THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Saint-Germain is an artsy neighboured, so you'll find a plethora of art galleries and antique shops to peruse, as well as theatres, cinemas, street markets and fashionable clothes shops. For a spot of food shopping to take fanciful French food home, Le Bon Marché & La Grande Epicerieare are a sure bet, and perfect to pick up presents too. Historically an area where literary icons lived, you are a stone's throw from the famous cafés where they would work including Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots.

By plane: Flights from London or Manchester to Paris Charles De Gaulle take 1 hour 15 minutes and the hotel is 1 hour's drive away. Book flights to Paris.

By train: Eurostar from London to Paris Gare du Nord takes 2 hours 20 minutes and the hotel is 30 minutes' drive away. Book trains to Paris.

THE FACILITIES

The very friendly reception staff came across as genuinely interested in our stay, enquiring where we had planned to visit and offering to make recommendations and bookings for us. The steam room, sauna and plunge pool offered a little oasis to retreat to and the bijou gym has all the equipment you'd need.

BED AND BATH

Rooms and suites are individually designed, expect upholstered headboards, comfortable seating, textured fabric wallpaper, ergonomic desks and chairs, modern lighting and a warm palate throughout. The bathrooms are marble-clad with powerful showers. Opt for a room with a balcony if you can.

FOOD AND DRINK

The cuisine is a real treat; expect exceptionally executed dishes presented with precision and care, starring local ingredients. Standout dishes included Brittany lobster with french fries and succulent corn-fed chicken from Les Landes, all served up in the light and airy restaurant and bar offering views straight onto the street via large windows.

Les Parisiens: chic brasserie, French cuisine. Open Tue-Sat, 12-2:15pm and 7-10:15pm. Lunch set menu from €32.
