Hotel Review: Hotel Flora, Venice

The hotel has a fabulous location in the city centre, down a narrow alleyway just off the Calle Larga XXII Marzo, only about 80 metres from the Grand Canal and St Mark's Square just a five-minute walk.

By plane: flights to Venice from London take 2 hours. Take an airport boat (1 hour) to reach the hotel, or a water taxi. Book flights to Venice.

The hotel is stuck in a time warp of around 1965, which is lovely. Old school keys hooked to bulky weights, and traditional furniture, artworks and décor all add to the feeling you're staying at a place from another age. There's a real 'Room With a View' feel to it all.

The hotel has modest facilities, but these are easily made up for in its charm. There's a small lobby, an inviting little bar with plush red sofas and chairs, a cosy dining room and a small tranquil, leafy courtyard garden.

The 40 rooms are spacious enough. Rooms are tastefully furnished with traditional décor and furniture, with neutral walls.

Only breakfast, a children's tea and bar drinks are offered, but they are in lovely surroundings and numerous restaurants and bars encircle the hotel.
