Hotel Review: Intercontinental Dublin
A gorgeous five-star hotel in the quiet and tree-lined Ballsbridge area, south of Dublin city. It looks modern from outside but has a plush interior with carpets, wood, chandeliers and soft lighting. Rooms are spacious, with huge comfortable beds, Italian marble bathrooms and floor to ceiling windows. There's a 14m pool, gym and spa.

OUR REVIEW
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
The hotel is in Ballsbridge, a quiet, tree-lined upmarket area just south of Dublin city centre, around ten mins by car, taxi or Dart (commuter) rail, or a 30 minute walk. It is also well serviced by buses, including the Aircoach from Dublin Airport, and convenient for exploring south of Dublin or Co Wicklow.
By plane: direct flights to Dublin from Manchester and Birmingham (1 hour), and London (1 hour 15 minutes). It's a 25-minute drive to the hotel. Parking costs €20 per day. Book flights to Dublin.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
The hotel looks like a large brick building from outside but inside it is full of plush carpets, antiques and chandeliers, with lots of wood and soft lighting, all making it seem more like an historic hotel on the inside.
THE FACILITIES
Even though this is a large hotel, service here feels personal and attentive (for example, the server at breakfast introduced herself by name). Facilities include a 14m lap-pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. There's a very well equipped gym (of a decent size), plus a full service spa with treatments. There's on-site parking, but it's expensive

FOOD AND DRINK
There's a good choice here - the most formal option is dining in Seasons restaurant, which is plush with views over the Garden Terrace (another dining area, in good weather). The Lobby Lounge serves more casual food (burgers, salads, sharing platters) as well as afternoon tea, and there is often live piano music.
Seasons Restaurant: elegant 2 AA-Rosette restaurant, local produce, seasonal menus. Open daily for breakfast.
Lobby Lounge: comfy sofas, all-day menu, open daily. Afternoon tea served 12-2:30pm, from €58.
