Hotel Review: The Galmont Hotel & Spa, Galway
A clean-lined, unfussy, contemporary hotel which is close to the city centre as well as the train station, though if you do have a car there is ample parking available. The food is good, featuring local fare, rooms are comfortable and chic and some come with a view over Lough Atalia.

OUR REVIEW
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
You can walk into Galway city centre in 15 minutes, where there are lots of restaurants, cafés, shops and of course traditional Irish pubs, often with live music. Beauty spots like Connemara are not far away and the hotel itself overlooks Lough Atalia, so you can see some sublime Irish natural landscapes without even leaving the premises.
By plane: flights from Birmingham and Edinburgh to Shannon take 1 hour 15 minutes; and London to Shannon takes 1 hour 30 minutes. A taxi will take an hour to the hotel. Parking on-site costs €10 per day. Book flights to Shannon.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
Those that love purple and shades of blue will be pleased, otherwise colours are fairly muted throughout. The contemporary ceiling lights add fun and the painted birdlife mural in the spa adds interest and a restorative nature setting. Large windows let natural light in and give views of the pretty lough.
THE FACILITIES
Staff are ready and waiting to give guests insider knowledge as to how to get the most out of their Galway trip - we discovered some cute restaurants from the staff that we may not have discovered ourselves. Facilities include a decent gym as well as a large pool and outdoor hot tub.

FOOD AND DRINK
Ireland is famous for its rich array of bread and you'll spot some at the plentiful breakfast buffet. This is an area well-known for seafood, and it's a great option when dining at Marinas; we recommend the monkfish with warm bulgur wheat salad.
Marinas Restaurant: Irish cuisine, local/seasonal produce. Open daily for breakfast and dinner. Mains from €12.
Coopers: casual bar, lounge and terrace. Open daily for lunch, dinner and drinks. Afternoon tea, Thu-Sun from €30.
