Hotel Review: Filario Hotel & Residences, Lake Como
At this sophisticated boutique hotel, soft tones of grey and brown dominate, with large floor-to-ceiling windows seamlessly blending inside and out. The contemporary design attracts a young clientele, who come to sun themselves by the infinity pool, sip cocktails at the beach club and savour exceptional dishes at the lakeside restaurant.

OUR REVIEW
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
This is a wonderful lakefront location on the eastern shore, a ten-minute drive south of Bellagio. Across the water lies gorgeous Villa del Balbianello, which sits on a promontory that juts out into the lake. Public boats serve Lezzeno, less than ten minutes' walk from the hotel.
By plane: direct flights from London (under 2 hours) and Manchester (2 hours 15 minutes) to Milan Malpensa. The hotel is a 1 hour 20 minute drive from the airport. On-site parking costs €15 a day. Book flights to Milan.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
Carved into the mountainside, the building perfectly integrates into the lake environment. Wood and glass dominate, with contemporary interiors decked out in soft earthy tones of grey and brown that recall the surrounding landscape. Interiors are flooded with natural light, with floor-to-ceiling windows immediately drawing the eye outside to the lake panorama.
THE FACILITIES
Young staff are professional and welcoming, and have plenty of recommendations on activities in the area. There's a stylish infinity pool, private pebble beach and lively beach club. There's complimentary use of sports equipment including kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. Boat rental can be organised, too.

FOOD AND DRINK
Filo is the hotel's excellent restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine. There's a strong emphasis on seafood dishes (scallop tartare with black truffle, linguine with cuttlefish) although you'll also find a vegan tasting menu. For informal dining head to YEAST Side, the hotel's trendy beach bar. At breakfast, there are homemade cakes and pastries, cold cuts and cheeses.
Ristorante Filo: seasonal restaurant, Italian cuisine. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
YEAST Side bistro: beach bar, snacks and light bites. All-day dining, open daily.
