Hotel Review: Villa e Palazzo Aminta, Lake Maggiore
A sumptuous Belle Epoque mansion with Liberty-style interiors, featuring stucco motifs, gleaming marble and glistening chandeliers, with divine views of the lake islands. The cavernous spa is a real treat, with steam room, ice waterfall and whirlpool bath, not to mention the many beauty treatments on offer.

OUR REVIEW
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
It's on the lakefront road just under 1km north of Stresa. The road can get busy in summer, when cars snake their way up the shoreline, although once you cross the threshold of the hotel the atmosphere is calm and composed. The mansion was built with the lake panorama in mind, and the views of the lake islands are simply sublime.
By plane: direct flights from London (under 2 hours) and Manchester (2 hours 15 minutes) to Milan Malpensa. The hotel is a 50 minute drive from the airport. Free on-site parking available. Book flights to Milan.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
Ritz and glitz combine in this Belle Epoque mansion with Liberty-style interiors - you'll find marble columns, Venetian floors and wooden antiques alongside golden-plated doors and slightly gaudy sideboards. Interiors are adorned with the owners' collection of objets d'art from the world over. This is one of the lake's grandest hotels and, to this day, is still family run, exuding a welcoming ambience.
THE FACILITIES
Staff are welcoming and attentive, providing professional, discreet service. The spa is a highlight, and guests have access to an outdoor swimming pool. There's a private beach and a small garden behind the property. Plenty of activities can be organised, from helicopter tours to private cooking classes with the chef, and private boat tours and island visits leaving from the hotel jetty. There's a free shuttle service to Stresa.
